Ice Queen

I built a wall of ice

Blocks of snow around my heart

The cold has seeped into my bones

Freezing me from the inside out

I thought I was protecting myself

But now I’m a prisoner of my own making

For I am numb to the touch

Of warmth and affection

Frozen in time under layers of frost

Each flake a barrier

Between me and the world

Blocking all possibility of love seeping in

So I stand alone in my icy fortress

Waiting for a thaw that may never come
