Freefall

There it is
That quiet startling moment
When I look at you and I can't remember
Who i was before you walked into my life
Or did I walk into yours?
Does it even matter?
I’m telling myself I shouldn't hope for anything
But here I am anyway, standing at the edge
Looking out over the unknown
And I can feel the gravity pulling me in
Even as I try to convince myself
I'm not ready
Not this time
Not again
But it's late and you're laughing
And I’m laughing
And that laugh, it has its own pull
Suddenly I’m confessing dreams
I didn’t even know I had
And telling stories I swore I’d never tell
Giving away bits and pieces of myself
Like I’d been waiting my whole life for this
And maybe it’s foolish
Some may call me naive
But what is love if not believing
In something I can't hold in my hands
But I can feel it here
Right here in my chest
Pulsing with every look
Every touch
It's the thrill of the fall
The reckless headlong rush into arms
That I hope will catch me
Arms that I hope
Are open and wide as I’ve opened myself
Because I'm falling with my heart in my hands
Like its the first time
Knowing the ground’s out there somewhere
But in this moment
In the pure perfect weightlessness
It's just you and me and the air around us
Holding us up as we fall together
Into something I can’t quite name
But already can’t imagine living without
